This Sunday we are going to continue to talk about FORGIVENESS. Our definition of forgiveness is deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn't have to pay. It is easy to hold grudges and resent people that have done you wrong, no matter your age. It's alot like carry around a bucket full of rocks. The bucket gets heavier and heavier. This Sunday we are going to talk about how Joseph forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery. It's important for your child to learn the importance of forgiveness early. Located in Carlinville, IL your children will experience fun, games, messiness and all kinds of water activities, but most of all your children will learn that Jesus is the light of the world.

Who’s the Boss?

Bottom Line: You respect God when you show respect for people in charge

Ask anyone from an older generation, and they’re likely to say that this generation has lost a sense of respect for authority. Is the respect we should have determined by culture, or is it a timeless principle God has defined for us? Boiled down, respect means showing others they are important by what you say and do. Like any other virtue, God created respect and models it for us. In more ways than we can name, God continuously shows us how important we are to Him even when we’ve done nothing to deserve it. This week’s lesson pointed out how God has placed leaders for our good and that there are benefits and consequences of the respect we have for those over us.

At home activities to reinforce our “Who’s the Boss” lesson…

Top Ten- While in the car, or enjoying an evening on the deck, or around the dinner table; come up with a Top Ten list of specific people that God has place in your child’s life that he/she should respect. Talk about specific ways they can show that person respect over the next week.

Chain Reaction- Open ended conversation prompts to help your child understand that they benefit from showing respect for a leader… It can start a chain reaction of respect. Ask them, how might you benefit when you show respect to a parent? (more privileges, better environment because the parents are happier, better relationship with parents) A babysitter? (say nice things about you to your parents. You may get to choose what to do during your time together.) A coach? (Get more playing time, get to lead the team, the coach says nice things about you to your parent)

Interview a Leader- Read Luke 6:31 first. Ask your child these questions before they begin their interview of someone else: Are you a leader? Are you in charge of anything at home, school, or somewhere else? Do other kids ever want to do what you’re doing? If so, you may already be a leader. But even if you don’t think you’re a leader yet, you want to be some day, right? God wants you to treat your leaders like you’d want to be treated.

So, how do you want to be treated as a leader? Interview someone in charge, like a parent or teacher, to get some ideas. Take notes and listen closely to their advice on what makes them a good leader. Here are some questions you could ask as you are interviewing: What do you want people to learn from you as a leader? How did you learn to lead the way you do? What are the three most important ways you want people to treat you as a leader?

Sweet and Simple- For a bedtime devotional, read last Sunday’s Bible story together. Romans 13:1-7

Because God treats us with respect, He wants us to live respectfully, and that involves showing respect for the people in charge. When we do, it can start a chain reaction of respect. Even better, it spotlights our respect for God

Are you looking for opportunities to talk with your kids about what they learned at church this past Sunday? Check it out…

-What did they learn? Last week was the fifth week of the month so we had an opportunity to take a break from the norm and focus on something a bit different: a “faith skill”. God wants us to think about true, noble, and right things because what goes in comes out in our words and actions. Junk in…junk out…

-Drawing/ Cartoons; Helping them understand the Bible verse- The Bible verse this week was kind of tricky and hard for kids to understand because of the big words. Philippians 4:8 “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. TRY THIS…Briefly talk about the key words in the verse: noble (to have very good qualities); pure (to be free from everything that might injure or lower the quality) lovely (very pleasing); admirable (highly thought of). Assign a word to each family member and have them draw a picture or cartoon about the word. Share when finished.

-Curl up with them and have some God Time- Read Luke 6:31 together. Use this summary to talk about the verse: Think about what God says and it’ll change your ACTIONS. Sometimes the world doesn’t treat people God’s way. (revenge, hatred, grudges) and it causes nothing but trouble. Don’t think like the world. Together, brainstorm words that reflect how we should treat others (care, love, respect, generous, kind, help, etc…).

-Around the dinner table or in the car… Ask each member in your family to name one thing that their minds were focused on that day. Was it TV, recess, bills to be paid, stress at work, a relationship with a friend or coworker, homework? Your child’s response will give you insight on where your child’s thoughts were for the day and allow you the perfect opportunity to shed the light of Jesus on issues in their life. Meet them where they are. The key principle here is CONVERSATION. Kids need it. Your child will learn more from you if you are a conversation PARTNER rather than just a conversation director.

Sunday, August 15 will be Multi-Colored Mania Madness. Say that 10 times real fast. What is “Multi-Colored Mania Madness? It’s time to create some energy Multi-Colored Mania Madnessand have some fun! Here is the challenge for all kiddos entering grades K-5…How many colors and patterns can you wear to “The Neighborhood” next Sunday? Can you wear 20 or more colors or patterns? The ideas are endless! Camouflage pants? Shirt with stripes or polka dots? Plaid? Paisley? Prints? How about belts, jewelry, neck ties, and all accessories? Once you layer all the crazy colors and patterns together, you have “Multi-Colored Mania Madness”!

Sunday, August 22 will be our Back to School Skate Party at the YMCA in Edwardsville from 5:30 to 7:30. The cost is $3 and you can pay at the door. The consession stand will be open and Pastor Rich will be sporting some great skating skills. See you there as we kick off another school year.

Big Changes in Children's MInistry Beginning Sunday August 15

Sunday mornings are changing so that we can better help kidz live for Christ. We want your child to live out the truth of the Bible and not just hear the Bible stories, so we are creating two seperate experiences to better capture the heart of your child. We know that on average we only have between 40-45 hours a year to influence your child spiritually. So our heart's desire is to leverage our time to provide maximum spiritual influence.

BACKYARD KIDZ (8:15 & 9:30)
An enperience that focuses on connecting your child to an adult small group leader that can be a positive voice in your child's life. We will continue to utilize both large and small group time, however we are going place more emphasis on the conversations, Bible application and faith skills in the context of a group of 8-10 children and a passionate small group leader.

CENTERSTAGE KIDZ CHURCH (10:55)
A brand new experience designed specifically to capture the heart, mind & imagination of each child. While continueing the same Biblical virtue, story and bottom line from Backyard Kidz we will engage your child in a creative, fun and exciting large group experience. William Shakespeare said that "all the world is a stage." This is one of his most often quoted lines in all his writings. If this is true, then on the center of that stage needs to be Jesus Christ.

We have a team of volunteers that are excited and passionate about partnering with you in seeing your child live for Jesus Christ. Here's where we need your help as parents. It's time to get back in the swing of many things. Getting up, going to school, homework & brushing your teeth! No, I mean I hope you have been brushing your teeth all a along. It's also time to keep this information site going with updated information. Makes sense, huh!

A couple of things I am excited about and will have more information this week. The biggest though is a new site called ORANGE PARENTS. If you didn't get a chance to hear Reggie Joiner preach on August 16 you got to go back and listen on the church website (http://www.fbcmonline.com/) . And if you did hear him you may want to go back a relisten to his thoughts on family.

There can be a new day for the family in America! But it will not happen by accident. Coming September 1st will be a site to help you (parents) and our church to go ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do You Feel the Luuuv?

How does that Beatles' song go? "All you need is love ..." When you think about it, just about everything we do with or for others boils down to love. Which, of course, doesn't come as a surprise to God-followers, the Creator of love. He IS love, after all (1 John 4:16), and the reason we can love at all: because He loved us first (1 John 4:19).

Jesus said THE most important commandment is to love God and to love Him with all we've got. When we do that, we'll love others--the second most important commandment. The second most important, yes, but so closely aligned with the first that it's impossible to split the two.

John put it this way: "If anyone says, 'I love God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen ... Whoever loves God must also love his brother" (1 John 4:20-21, NIV). And so on that one "peg" (love God/love others) hang ALL the commandments--the 10 Commandments, the Mosaic Law, and the 600 or so laws the Pharisees added to it.

So this month we have focused on love, which is choosing to give someone your time and friendship no matter what. The first week we began with the time the Pharisees got their heads together in an attempt to trick Jesus and His reply (which also happens to be our memory verse for the month, Matthew 22:37-39). When you love God, you'll love others. The second week of August we talked about what takes "first place" and the fact that when you love others, you give them your time, as Jesus pointed out when He visited Mary and Martha (Luke 10).
This past week revolved around Jesus' parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15): When you love others, you're quick to forgive.

THIS SUNDAY we'll focus on what Jesus told Peter after His resurrection (John 21). When you love Jesus, you'll treat others the way He does.

Next Sunday we'll depart from the norm and examine a "faith skill," the faith skill of prayer (dialoguing with God, both public and private). Jesus modeled all kinds of principles about prayer for us. But ultimately, He showed us that talking to God changes things.

Just thought you might want to know what your children are learning so that you can talk with them about LOVE at home.

VBS is almost here!

Beginning Sunday at 6:30 PM we will begin our Vacation Bible School. This year we are taking a train ride through the Australian outback. Make sure you bring a friend to experience the fun that is VBS. Music, crafts, snacks, games and Bible study will make for great week!!

Kidz Camp day one began with a bang! Literally. This week we are talking about Living Out Loud. We want to take in the word of God and then live it out.

The rain stopped as we pulled into the parking lot here at Lake Williamson. We swam, blobbed, water slide and ate 2 great meals.

Andy began our camp song the kids are helping to write titled Got to Live it Louder. Check back hopefully for pictures and video each day. Still working through the technical difficulties.

Kidz Lock-In

The Kidz Lock-In is scheduled for Friday Night March 27 from 6-10. We will play games, eat pizza, run the inflatible and watch a movie. Your child needs to sign up by next Wednesday evening if they plan to attend. This way we can prepare for the kids that will be attending. This Sunday we begin our journey to Easter. The next four weeks we will be talking about the hope and conviction we have by following Jesus! Our series theme is HAPPY DAY. I know that is a hard thing to think about during these times in the life of our church. But we want our kids to know that when Jesus rose from the grave it has given people hope that during bad times something good can come out of it. Jesus wiped our sins away! So we will celebrate that HAPPY DAY.

A Word About Grief

I know these are difficult times in our lives. Very unexpected and painful. I want to give you a few things to remember when talking with your children through this at home.

1. Allow your children to acknowledge the crisis. But the first step in helping a child work through the grieving process is to encourage them to admit there's a reason for grieving.

2. Give them opportunity to respond to how they feel about the change. Kids are very creative in finding ways to express pain and grief. Encourage them to use arts, poetry and music in particular.

3. Don't underestimate your kids' spiritual depth. If you've ever wondered about what your children think about God or faith in Christ, you'll probably find out in the wake of a crisis or trauma.

4. Help find answers. If you don't have the answers to their questions, find someone who does. Be the grown up and get the information.

5. Give your kids something tangible to hold on to. Find a symbol (i.e. an anchor or cross) to give your child as a reminder that we a Friend like no other who will never leave us in times of trouble.

LOL Kidz Camp 2009

June 8-12, Lake Williamson in Carlinville, IL

This year's Kidz Camp is going to be over the top fun for your child. Our theme this year is LOL-- Live Out Loud. We are going to be teaching about when we live with compassion the noise of our life points people to Jesus. Oh yeah, and there is going to be the water slide, blob, zip line, slip n slide, snow cones, popcorn, great food, new music, friends, messy games, fishing, crafts, games and more.

Kidz Camp is for children that have completed 1st Grade.

Cost for camp is $240 before May 10. After May 10 the cost will be $265. Fill out a bright green envelope and place a $75 deposit inside to sign up. Space is limited so sign up soon!

On Sunday February 8 & 15 all children that bring a friend that does not attend FBCM will recieve a coupon for a free smoothie from the church cafe. The friend will also recieve the same coupon. If your child brings multiple friends they will recieve a coupon for each friend they bring. There will be a friend check in station upstairs to greet all guests and pass out Friendalicious coupons.

It's time again for our monthly KidzStuff. KidzStuff is where kids bring parents to learn about God. One of the biggest values of parents attending KidzStuff with their children is that moms and dads learn what we are teaching at church all month long. It's one way that our partnership in spiriutally helping your child is strengthened.

Fair Grounds"That's no fair!" Who among us has never put his hands on his hips and cried those words? Most of us have built-in fairness radar--at least when it comes to how we're treated. But of course fairness is a two-way street. More on that in a minute. Let's get something else out of the way first: the words SAME and EQUAL. Sometimes SAME = EQUAL. Sometimes it does not--which is how we're approaching the virtue of fairness. Think about it this way: fairness is NOT about treating people THE SAME. Because God created us in His image (Genesis 1:27), we are alike in some ways, but different in others. Apart from obvious physical differences, we have different personalities, skills and talents, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. Because we're different, we have different NEEDS. And because we have different needs, we don't all necessarily need to be treated the same. (Example: I bet you and your siblings are not all the same. You are different in some ways. Which means your parents needed to do some things differently for each of you in order to parent you in the way you needed. Right?) So, fairness is not about treating people the same. Instead, fairness IS about treating people EQUALLY. Because God created us, He loves each of us--dearly and without favoritism. So much so that He sent His one and only Son to die for us (John 3:16), regardless of our sex, age, race, ethnicity, or nationality. As Peter said, "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right" (Acts 10:34-35, NIV). Thank goodness God is fair! Back to that two-way street thing: As dearly loved children of God, He wants us to be imitators of Him (Ephesians 5:1). "As believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism" (James 2:1, NIV). In other words, don't unfairly favor one person OR unfairly "disfavor" another. So this month, we'll be going to the "Fair Grounds," where everyone is treated with respect.
Week 1: Treat everyone fairly because everyone's important to God.(The principle of fairness, James 2)
Week 2: Treat everyone fairly--even those who are different.(The parable of the good Samaritan, Luke 10)
Week 3: Treat everyone fairly--even your enemies.(Saul and Ananias, Acts 9)
Week 4: Show God's love to everyone because He wants everyone to know Him.(Jesus' last orders to the disciples, Matthew 28; Acts 1)

Sundays in November

Every good thing comes from God (James 1:17), so gratitude is a proper response toward Him. In fact, if we didn't express gratitude, we wouldn't be recognizing who God is and what He's done for us. Plus, Jesus modeled gratitude for us (Luke 9:16). And He had something to say about it directly.

Read Luke 17:11-19, about the ten lepers meeting Jesus. This encounter shows that the opportunity to demonstrate gratitude occurs every time someone meets a need for someone else. Unfortunately, only one of the ten chose to express gratitude. We don't know why the other guys didn't return. Maybe they were so caught up in celebrating with family and friends they didn't even think about it. Or maybe they thought that what was given to them was something they'd earned - sort of an entitlement mentality.

This month we are going to explore how to stop the busyness and "you owe me" excuses and REWIND AND REMIND ourselves exactly what has been done for us. We will take time to just say thank you. We will remember how others have helped us. We won't let an entitlement mentality infect our thinking, causing the wrong attitude to spoil our gratitude. We are going to make sure we let others know we see how they've helped us and take time to celebrate what God has done. So, in November we'll be talking about GRATITUDE, letting others know you see how they've helped you.

Week 1 is about Jesus healing 10 men with leprosy (Luke 17). Bottom Line: Take time to just say thank you.

Week 2 is about the list maker: Paul, making a list of those he's thankful for (Romans 16). Bottom Line: Take time to remember how others have helped you.

Week 3 is Jesus' parable of the vineyard workers (Matthew 20). Bottom Line: Don't let the wrong attitude spoil your gratitude.

Week 4 will focus on the main feasts celebrated in Old Testament days (Exodus 23). Bottom Line: Take time to celebrate what God has done.

And for the 5th Week: A 252 Basics special edition on one of five "faith skills": Give to God (serve and invest). This is a "bridge" lesson, spanning gratitude (in November) and generosity (in December). You don't want to miss this one!

Sundays in October

Jesus says, "In this world you will have trouble." No ifs, ands, or buts. You will face sickness, death, divorce, temptations, failures, rejection, peer pressure. You will have trouble that you won't see coming. And no one is exempt. Not the young, not the old, not the good.

Even Jesus had trouble. He was tempted, persecuted, beaten, crucified. He could've taken an easy way out, given up, and gone back to heaven. Instead, He decided it was worth it to stay and finish what He'd started, being "obedient to death—even death on a cross!" (Philippians 2:8, NIV). Despite His trouble, Jesus had the determination needed to keep doing what God said. If our attitude is to be the same as that of Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5), we will need that same determination.

The kind of determination that will keep us doing what God says even if it's hard, and even if others don't, so that we don't miss something really good. Yep, we will have trouble in this life, but grit your teeth and don't give up because God will not give up on you. You can be sure that "he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6, NIV).

So for October, Sunday mornings are all about DETERMINATION, which is deciding it's worth it to finish what you've started. Here's the line-up:

Week 1 - Keep doing what you should do even if it's hard. We'll be talking about Paul and how he was determined to finish right (2 Corinthians 11:23b-27; Acts 20:24).

Week 2 - Keep doing what God says even if others don't. This week is about Noah and the great flood (Genesis 6:6–7:7).

Week 3 - Keep doing what God says because He is God. The focus is on the Israelites leaving slavery in Egypt (Exodus).

Week 4 - Keep doing what you should do so you don't miss something really good. Sort of a continuation from last week, we'll be talking about 40 years in the wilderness (Numbers 14:1-39).

Teach Less for More

Our Kidz Team is constantly trying to find new ways to help your kids live for Christ. Beginning this week we are fine tuning our Sunday morning experience a little bit. We are going to teach less. That's right we are going to teach less.

Here's what we are going to do. On Sunday mornings, no matter what hour your child attends, we are going to have one Bible story, one memory verse for the month and one main point for your child to learn. Instead of having two different curriculums between the hours, we are going to only teach one truth out of the Bible. Each hour (9:15 & 10:45) will have completely different learning activities so that your kids aren't getting lost in repetition.

Why are we doing this? Because weekends matter! We only have so many weekends to help influence your child to live for Christ and we don't want to take any chances of missing an opportunity. See you Sunday!

Hey parents, just wanted to let you know this past Sunday was a huge hit. Gordo and friends always leave a big impression on our kids. Thanks for making sure your kids didn't miss out on this great event.

Special thanks to our volunteers that stayed all morning to make sure the kids had a special day. Parents I want you to know that our Kidz Team is second to none. They are as good as it gets. So make sure sometime when you are picking up your child you tell them thank you and maybe even share a something your child has come home and told you from a Sunday.

By the way, check out the slideshow to the left. We are working on becoming more Tech Savy around here. But I am the weak link. I am hoping to have a video online next week that will preview next months virtue.

On Thursday, I am going to be posting some information about some changes that are going to happen in October. Check back on Thursday to get the new scoop and why we are making these changes.

Gordopalooza 2 this Sunday, September 21

We are only FIVE DAYS to Gordopalooza 2. This Sunday morning is one of those days your kids will want to get out of bed early for. Beginning at 9:15 and ending at 12:00 PM (or whenever church gets out) we are going laugh and learn all about God. The entire KidzStuff gang (Tyler, Vinny, Cammie, Marshall and yes Gordo) will be here. Gordo is writing a song to go with our monthly virtue. The mad scientist doctor from Kids Camp will be here to perform a life altering experiment. We will have donuts, music, large group and small group activities. We have it all. It is going to be huge!

Our theme is Gordo & the Pirates of the Clubhouse. We are going to be teaching kids that "when I make the wise choice, it helps others do what God says." Throughout the morning in a creative, high energy way we are going to point kids to God's Word.

HERE IS AN IMPORTANT NOTE:
This is a great morning to bring a friend that doesn't normally go to church somewhere. They will want to come back next week after this experience. Let's make the invites and who knows maybe your child's friend will come to know Jesus as their savior on Sunday. Who knows. Just ask!

Lock-In a Success

The Kidz Fall Lock-In was a huge success. We had 187 kids attend with a great deal of energy. The evening was filled with food, games, crafts and a movie. Our large room was overflowing with people.

I want to say thank you to all the volunteers that gave of their Friday evening to make that a success. We can't effectively and efficiently help kids live for Christ without your help. You are awesome!

We only have 52 Sundays a year to help you develop your child spiritually to stand firm in a crazy world. As a Kidz Team we don't take our job lightly. Please make every effort to be in attendance on Sundays. Our Team stands ready to help your child discover God.

Wednesday nights are all about children memorizing Bible verses, learning to use their Bibles and discover how the Christian faith is not only head knowledge but how people are involved in serving God. We start at 7 PM in THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

The first Wednesday night of every month is KidzStuff. A funny, Bible based evening designed for the entire family. Many times as adults we bring our kids into our world to experience God. But KidzStuff is the place that kids bring parents to learn about God. September 3 will be our first KidzStuff for the fall. We begin at 7 PM. You won't want to miss Gordo, Tyler & Vinny. You just never know what might happen in the clubhouse.

I Can't Wait

I can't wait until Sunday!!!!! I have been out of town in smoldering hot Texas for a week (I did get some great Mexican Food though!!!!) and can't wait to be back with all the kids and Kidz Team members this week. It seems like it has been forever after preaching the two previous Sundays, I can't wait to see big smiles on Sunday.

I want to thank all Kidz Team members for your work over the past month. It has been fast and furious with Vacation Bible School, covering vacations weeks for volunteers and be not being right there. I just love our team. Every week you prepare and BRING YOUR BEST so that kids can learn about the amazing love of Jesus.

I want to give a special thanks to Cindy Vargo for being my lead person for those three Sundays. I know it takes everyone to make Sunday happen and we can't do it without everyone, but someone has to be the point person. Cindy, you always shy away from credit but these weeks have been crazy with new leaders observing, many leaders on vacation, substitute teachers filling in, new kindergarteners coming for a visit and leading HIGH ENERGY for the kids. I am grateful to your leadership and parents we are fortunate to have Cindy and Steve Vargo working with your kids. Thanks.

VBS is Off & Running....

Well the first day of VBS was full of energy. Make sure and bring a friend with you this week. Here's the challenge: If we have 500 different kids come to VBS then you get to turn me and 2 of my closest friends into SUNDAEs. That's right chocolate, marshmellows, caramel etc....

As we begin taking our missions offering, boys and girls will be giving to provide Bible to children in Zambia, Africa. A missions team will be delivering those Bibles in two weeks to those kids who don't have Bibles. We will also be collecting money to help provide children in Madison County that need back to school supplies. It is important for kids to know it is a big world out there and we can help boys & girls learn about God by helping meet their needs.

Don't forget: Friday night is Family Night. The muscial starts promptly at 6:55 and will culuminate in the parking lot with Ice Cream & Inflatible Jumpers for the kids. Don't miss you child performing the VBS Musical on the big stage with over 250 other children. It is quite a site. Don't miss it!

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to bring your child to an exciting week of VBS. Living God’s Unshakeable Truth!

· Helpful VBS Hints ·

· Nightly registration will begin at 6:15 pm
· All children attending VBS must wear the “Official Outrigger Passport” with a security number that is assigned to each family. Your child will be given a Passport on the first night and they are to wear it each night they attend. Children will receive marks on their Passport for attendance and bringing friends. Be sure to wear your Passport on Friday Family Night and redeem it for a cool prize.
· Helpful Hint – Once your child leaves VBS hang their Passport on your rear view mirror that way it will be ready for the next day.
· Once your child has their Passport, it is not necessary for you to stop at the
table again unless you bring guests or you lose your Passport. If you lose your Passport, we will not be able to replace your marks.
· All children must be escorted by their parents to the main auditorium and you will pick them up at 9 pm in the same location. Children (ages 4 & Pre K) will need to first check in at the Preschool table first before going to the auditorium and picked up is in the Preschool Department. For your child’s safety we cannot allow them to be drop off at the door.
· When picking up you will be asked to say the security number that is assigned to your child. If someone else is coming in your place, please provide them with the security number.
· If you have any questions regarding picking up or dropping off, please visit the Registration Table in the main foyer
· When you bring a friend be sure to have your Pass Port punched by the staff at the Registration table in the lobby. Please wear shoes that are appropriate for outdoor activities.

Can you believe it? Only two more weeks to Vacation Bible School. I am so excited and can barely wait. We are making final preparations. We're growing palm trees and building beach huts. VBS is one of the biggest events during the entire year for First Baptist Church.

Many people are making preparations and clearing their schedule to be here. Don't miss out. Don't let your kids miss out. Because if they are not here they will miss out on a complete blast. The music, drama, games, crafts, snacks, mission stories and Bible teaching.

VBS is filled with a bunch of fun and games, but I want you as a parent to value the fact that your child will encounter each day a Bible truth that will help build them into a spiritual champion.

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay on the blog, but it seems to be back and working again. Kidz Camp was an absolute blast. We are now less than one year away for Kidz Camp 2009 so mark your calendar now. The dates are June 8-12, 2009. It doesn't hurt to start planning early.

Vacation Bible School is only four weeks away. The dates are Sunday, July 20 - Friday, July 25. We are gearing up for the best VBS we have ever had. Make sure you invite a few friends to come with you. We'll set a goal and if you reach it you will make me (Pastor Rich) and a few of my closest friends into a Human Sundae. Yuck!!!!!!

Here's the breakdown of how to earn SKITTLES:

2 for Attending
5 for Bringing their Bible
10 for Brining a friend
20 for Perfect Attendance

Skittles will be placed in a jug for the appropriate grade. The Skittles will be counted at the end of the three weeks and the winning team will earn a Skittles Pizza Party!

There is a Kidz Camp Meeting this Sunday night (APRIL 20) at 5:30 in room 224 (the large area in the children's ministry area). Please make sure to attend this meeting. We will pass out what to bring (what not to bring), talk about basic guidelines, give a synopsis of Bible teaching for the week and have a time of Q & A.

Can you believe it? There are only eight weeks until camp. Now is the time to sign up. Remember your deposit of $75 is due with registration and total amount is due by May 20. The cost goes up after May 20 so sign up today.

To sign up all you have to do is pick up a bright green Events Envelope from the registration desk. And it is okay to bring friends but they need to follow the same registration steps.

All right we are about to begin our game of SKITTLES on Sunday, April 20. We will play on Sunday, April 20, April 27 & May 4. The rules are simple and the prize will be unbelievable.

Each grade will compete against the other grades. Kids earn Skittles for their team's jar:

For attending
For bringing a Bible
For bringing a friend
For Perfect Attendance over 3 weeks

Each grade will get to eat the Skittles they have earned on May 11 and the winning class will win a SKITTLE Pizza Party!

Lock IN Sign UP NOW AVAILABLE

Please make sure you sign your child up for the Spring Lock-In on April 18 from 6-10 pm. It will be alot of fun. Kids will be divided up by ages: Kindergarten & 1st Grade, 2nd & 3rd Grade and 4th & 5th Grade as they rotate through the evening. We will eat pizza, play outside and play in the gym. We will also watch a movie and eat snacks. More information on the movie that will be shown will come the week of the lock in.

But please make sure and sign your child up so that we can plan for the right about of food and drinks.

The next FAITH CLUB will be on Saturday, April 26 from 9 am to 11:30 pm. FAITH CLUB is the new Christian's class for children. If your child has asked Jesus in their heart or has been asking questions for an extended period of time please sign them up to attend. Children must complete Faith Club before they can be baptized. Some children have taken some of the sessions but have not completed the entire class, please send them on this day so that they can complete the entire class. Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Can you smell it? Well not quite yet. But the smell of fresh cut grass and spring means it's baseball season! This Sunday we have encouraged the kids to wear their favorite baseball shirt or sports shirt (last years VBS shirt would be great also) and we will be getting ready for baseball. We'll celebrate with fresh popcorn.

This week we are also talking about some crazy stories in the Bible. And trust me their are some unusual stories in the Bible. Make sure your child is here this Sunday at 9:15 or 10:45. They don't want to miss this special week.

Spring Lock IN Coming FAST

The Spring Lock-In for kids is coming up fast. Friday, April 18 from 6-10 pm your kids will eat pizza, play indoor and outdoor games and watch a movie. We are expecting over 150 kids this year. Celebrate Easter Sunday with us on March 23 at 9:15 or 10:45. We are planning to tell the story of Jesus' resurrection in memorable way on this Sunday. Remember Easter is a Sunday that people will come to church if you invite them. Make sure to invite them on this day to join you at First Baptist Church. See you there!!!!

Kidz Camp is Coming!!!!

Okay, here's the deal. Many of you have been asking about Kidz Camp 2008. Well Camp info is finally here. On Sunday, March 2 you can pick up registration forms, fliers and volunteer applications if you want to attend as a volunteer.

Our Kidz Camp meeting dates are April 20 & May 18 at 5:30. Also the parent and camper meeting is June 1 at 5:30. Mark these dates and don't miss out.

Remember your child can bring friends, but they need to sign up and attend the meetings too. This year is going to be another great experience for your family. If you have questions please send me an email at richc@fbcmonline.com

Kidz Camp registration will begin on Sunday, March 16.

The camp dates are June 9-13 at Lake Williamson near Carlinville, IL. If you are interested in attending as a volunteer please let the Children's Ministry office know ASAP, complete and return a Camp Volunteer Application in early February and begin praying about how God can use you to help a child live for Christ!

Space will be limited for campers and volunteers so please consider your calendars now and sign up when registration opens.

The reason we do Connect Sunday every year is because we know it is so easy to miss connecting with a Small Group Bible Study. There is so much value to spending an hour each week with other adults in the same life stage to listen/discuss how the Bible answers real life questions like family, money, job and many other topics. Make this a time where you, as moms and dads, connect in a Bible Study.

Sundays in THE NEIGHBORHOOD Children's Ministry are rockin. Come join the excitement each week at 9:15 or 10:45. We are talking about ORDERLINESS (arranging your day to make it easier).

We have just discovered that God created the world in a specific order for a purpose. This Sunday we are going to be talking about what Jesus said was the greatest commandment. You know when you put God first everything else falls into place.

Don't forget FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT this Friday at 7 PM. Parents bring your child and enjoy watching Charlotte's Web the updated children's classic. We will have popcorn and lemonade. No drop off of children. This event is for kids and parents.

Make sure and bring your child this Sunday so you won't miss out on anything going on in THE NEIGHBORHOOD!

KidzStuff this Wednesday at 7 PM

This Wednesday night is KidzStuff. KidzStuff is where families get to worship and learn about God together. Kids can't wait to have their parents with them on their spiritual growth journey. KidzStuff will help parents know the virtue we will be teaching during the month so that it can be talked about at home.

This month we are talking about ORDERLINESS. What a way to start the year! I am guessing that is something that can be talked about at your house. Gordo and the gang will be there this week and there something to do with the Wizard of Oz.

Our Annual Family Movie Night is January 18 at 7 PM.

We will be watching Charlotte's Web. We will show the movie in the large area of THE NEIGHBORHOOD. Come on, bring the family and enjoy some popcorn. This will be a fun night for the entire famly!
